Factors that Influence Walking Pace
Width & Vegetation
Around the site of William S. Pierce School in South Philadelphia, the width of the streets and the density of the vegetation were factors that influenced how pedestrians walked in the area.  The more vegetated streets such as Catharine Street and Carpenter Street influenced people to walk at a slower pace than streets with less vegetation such as 24th Street and 23rd Street.
Wider Streets such as Washington Avenue and Christian Street influenced people to walk at a faster pace than less wider streets such as 24th and 23rd Streets.
